How to Review CAD Without Creating Rework

CAD should be used to confirm mounting datums, cable path, critical tolerances, and thermal clearance. It should not be treated as final performance approval until the torque-speed curve, sample plan, and thermal condition are aligned.

  • Compare mechanical datums against your own housing before requesting a physical sample.
  • Review whether hollow bore, cable exit, or flange geometry needs extra assembly clearance.
  • Mark critical dimensions for incoming quality control, not only for 3D layout.
  • Tie every CAD revision to a drawing number or RFQ baseline.

Common CAD Request Mistakes

  • Requesting STEP files without sharing OD/ID/stack limits, which creates out-of-envelope files.
  • Changing cable, connector, or mounting after sample approval without freezing a new revision.
  • Checking only mechanical interference while missing thermal clearance or cable routing.
  • Sending an RFQ with screenshots instead of drawings, tolerances, and operating condition.
