How to Read a Datasheet for Procurement Decisions

A useful datasheet should separate continuous limit, short-duration peak, and test condition. If the document does not state voltage, ambient temperature, duty cycle, mounting, or winding revision, it should not be used as the only basis for sample or PO approval.

• Compare torque-speed points under the same bus voltage and control strategy.
• Check whether continuous torque is tied to a realistic thermal path for your housing.
• Confirm resistance, inductance, and Kt/Ke belong to the same winding revision.
• Use the acceptance table to convert technical data into sign-off criteria.

Risk Signals in Supplier Data

• Only peak torque is shown without duration, temperature, or cooling condition.
• The torque-speed curve does not match the voltage or driver your equipment will use.
• The supplier cannot tie datasheet, CAD, and sample to the same revision.
• The document mixes family-level data with a customized variant without clarifying scope.
